123, 6 Things About Me

Written by Michele T on February 10, 2008 – 9:45 pm -

As promised, I’m catching up on meme posts this weekend.

Janna, at Something She Wrote, has asked me to participate in the 123 Meme.

Here are the rules:

1) Pick up the book nearest you
2) Open to page 123
3) Find the 5th sentence
4) Post the following 3 sentences
5) Tag five others

The book nearest to me is Chicken Soup for the Writer’s Soul: Stories to Open the Heart and Rekindle the Spirits of Writers. It’s a great book that I’m enjoying very much. It’s nice to draw strength, encouragement, and inspiration from writers who have persisted and made it.

Page 123 is actually a cover page for the fourth chapter. There’s only a quote:

Find a subject you care about and which in your heart you feel others should care about. It is the genuine caring, and not your games with language, which will be the most compelling and seductive element in your style.

- Kurt Vonnegut

I like this quote. I think it’s simple, yet powerful all at once.

Onto the other Meme…

Mary, at Mary’s Writing Nook, would like me to share 6 unimportant habits or quirks about myself…

Here are the rules:

1 Link to the person that tagged you.

2 Post the rules on your blog.

3 Share six non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself.

4 Tag six random people at the end of your post by linking to their blogs.

5 Let each random person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their website.

Since this is a writing-related blog, I’ll share six things about my writing life.

1. If someone is talking, I’ll sometimes write down part of what they said and part of what I was thinking.

2. Writing with a pink pen or in a pink notebook makes me happy.

3. I’d rather write than eat, or write while eating.

4. I’m addicted to making lists.

5. I like to write poems for family members as gifts.

6. I drink herbal tea when I write.

Now, I’m supposed to tag others. This time I’m going to break the rules and open the comments to anyone who’d like to participate. Either share with us in the comments, or write your own post and come back and leave a link. I do hope at least a few of you jump in and share!

Just a reminder….

Don’t forget to vote for your favorite blog entry!

That is a great quote, isn’t it? Glad you enjoyed it. :-)

By now the weekend is over, so I hope you have a great week!

My mother is very obviously NOT a writer. I’m sitting at her computer catching up on some blog reading in between running errands for her Wedding and there isn’t a book in sight to share 1,2,3. :-)

She does have some interesting things around the room to spark imagination. A paper crane, a small teddy bear, a beautiful picture on the wall, an empty bookshelf (moving house) and a small collection of miniture buddahs. :-) All story motivation if you ever needed something to get you going.

Ah, congratulations to your mother on her upcoming Wedding!

I have been wondering where you have been keeping yourself. Now I know. :-)

Thanks so much for using your creative mind to share the objects around you as motivation. You’re so clever!

Thanks for stopping by in the midst of your event planning.

      Smiles,
      Michele

      Michele,

These are terrific memes. I am a list maker, too!

The other meme about reaching for the nearest book turned out to be kind of freaky! I’m planning to write about the upcoming lunar eclipse. Therefore the closest book to me is “Observer’s Handbook 2008.” But that is not the freaky part. This book covers all aspects of observing stars, meteor showers, articles on light pollution etc. It is 324 pages of information, charts, and graphs. Here is where it gets freaky. Page 123 contains a chart listing lunar eclipses, which of course, includes this one that I plan to write about! :-)

      Smiling right back at you,
      Tina

      Hi Tina,

That is quite strange, isn’t it?! That’s one of the things Rebecca asked when she participated in this meme.

Will it have an weird connection to you in the moment?

I urge you to read her post as well. She’d love for you to comment and share your experience with her!

Thanks for sharing it with me. :-)

      Smiles,
      Michele

Interesting Vonnegut quote. I’ve been tagged with these meme as well but I’ve seen a similar one elsewhere and may change the rules a bit when I post it. I enjoyed learning a bit about your writing habits and like that “twist” on Mary’s meme. Thanks for sharing.
      Hugs and blessings,

    8. Michele Says:

      Isn’t it though?

Well, go ahead and change the rules. I’m sure you’ll put a neat twist on it. I thought it would be better if I gently nudged this meme in the direction of writing, since that’s what this blog is about. :-)

      Glad you liked it!

      Smiles,
      Michele
